The #WalkInRed campaign is an effort by #ActuallyAutistic individuals to rally support for #AutismAcceptance. It began on March 19th, 2015 and will continue to be an annual event for as long as it takes to convince the world to choose #LoveNotFear. We're off to a good start with submissions from all over Canada, the United States, Germany, France, Ireland, South Africa and more!
During the month of April, many people will be #LIUB (or Lighting it Up Blue) with the intention of promoting "awareness" only to raise money for the notorious hate group Autism Speaks – many people want to be helpful and supportive, but are, ironically, unaware. By spreading #redINSTEAD you can share the message that there should be #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs!
If you want to learn more about why it is hurtful to participate with A$;

An Unholy Alliance: Autism Speaks and the Judge Rotenberg Center by Lydia Brown

#WalkInRed2015 was created as an alternative to stop the fearmongering that #Autistic people have long associated with awareness campaigns (think: beware) and instead promote Autism Acceptance Month by encouraging everyone to post selfies on all social media platforms wearing red shoes, socks, hats, nail polish, any other item of clothing, holding signs or eating food, etc, etc. On both April 2nd and 30th there will be a huge flashblog / tweetstorm, inbetween which we will continue to amass and share #WalkInRed photos and #positivity-themed blogs, etc throughout the entire month.
We want to use #acceptanceNOTawareness as a platform to popularize #AutisticPride.
